Tennis Elbow

By Dr. Vid Jindal DC, CCSP

Sooner or later every tennis player experiences tightness or pain around the outside of their elbow. This is commonly known as tennis elbow. Stretching and icing temporarily alleviate pain, but Active Release Technique and skilled Chiropractic alignment of the joints above and below quickly restore normal function and rebalance the muscles.

The Anatomy

The elbow, or more technically the proximal radio ulnar joint1, can deteriorate over time because of overuse, which leads to pain. How does misalignment and tenderness occur?

When the extensor muscle2 is overused, traumatized, or even surgically altered, the attachment point is stressed, causing irregular movement of the joint. The resulting chronic pain is only masked by icing, stretching, painkillers and steroid injections.  When the muscle tissue surrounding this joint is physically altered, it causes the fibers to form a crisscross patch of scar tissue3.  Without effective therapy and treatment, this muscle adhesion restricts motion and builds up over time. However, there’s a non invasive solution.

The Solution

Active Release Technique and skilled Chiropractic alignment of the joints above and below quickly restore normal motion and rebalance the muscles.  To improve function and hold treatments longer, specific strength and stretching protocols are necessary. As a tennis player, you will be able to handle the stress of an efficient back hand and increase the power of your serve.  Please consult the office if you require more information or would like to schedule a consultation.
